You'll need to create a user and a database and give permissions for that database to that user in CPanel.

Then you'll need to supply that info (dbname, username and user's pw) on the screen you linked above.

Unless you alter the standard configuration, and unless you're allready running another phpbb on the same account, you'll leave phpbb_ alone in the prefix box, as well as the first 2 boxes. MySQL is correct for the db type.

There should be installation directions for phpBB that include creating a database... did they leave out that step?
    Good luck

Well what I did was make a new forum via cPanel. The instructions are 2.x needs to be installed and 3.x needs to be installed and then you can do the conversion after 3.x is installed. But again it is asking for the settings above.

I'm doing this as a test to convert over a forum that is currently live so i dont "BLOW" it up.

You'll still need to create a new database for version 3, I'd assume. You can probably use the same user and give that user perms to the new database.

If you want to use the same database and user you are using for your brand new v.2.x, you'll change the phpbb_ prefix so that the new db will create all of its tables in the same db, but with a different prefix as the name for each table. I wouldn't, but it's up to you.

phpbb also has a popular support forum. I'd think they might be the place to ask these questions past the answer "Yes, MySQL is what the database is at your host."
    Good luck

stay away from RC1 or any other RC/beta/alpha of phpbb.

i'd suggest you stay away from the final too and wait for the next release after the final.

Wouldn't it be possible that the one after the final is an RC?

Well this site is not live and is being used for testing only.

    RC is Release Canidate.

This version of phpBB is not to buggy that is why I am testing it. Also another board that I use went to RC1 and going well.

Try using "localhost" as your database host name.

Are you trying to connect from a completely different account on your VPS? If so, you'll have to allow server.djbitz.com in your remote connections screen in CPanel.

    If not, try

    127.0.0.1
    Good luck

Actually, I'd try 127.0.0.1 first, not the remote hosts thing...
    Good luck

Glad to hear! Be sure to keep us posted on your conversion activities.

I have a medium to large forum I might convert someday, but I expect them to be at least 9 months to a year before they're ready for prime time with this.

    Hope I'm wrong, but....
    Good luck

Good to see! Pretty brave moving such a large board to a release candidate!

I have soooo many hand made customizations, it'll take me a week to create my own version I fear. I also piggy back stuff into the user table and have a chat room and a photo gallery tied into the user system ... sigh...
    Good luck
