One of the backup disk failed and was beyond repair. Your backup drive has been changed. You can take new backup now. This was notified in your support ticket as well.

As far as I know, JPC uses various levels of RAID to do dis mirroring on all of their servers. Mirroring isn't a foolproof method of insuring against failure. A failed drive can (and often does) cause corruption to its mirrors before it can be replaced. In that regard, simply relying on disk mirroring on a production server is a bad idea, hence the reason for backup servers. JPC backup servers are best suited to maintain a snapshot of a server for quick restoration purposes. They do not have the capacity or reliability to serve as a long-term backup solution. If you need to truly be sure that your backups last then you should consider backing up to tape or optical disc (CD-R, DVD-R, etc.). Even those methods are not completely foolproof, but at least your data is on a disc/tape that can be removed and archived, not on constantly spinning disks of a medium- to high traffic server.

Here's another way to look at it: you lock your car to keep thieves out, right? Most of the time that works, but if someone really wants to get in your car they can break the window. In this case the backup server host a recent version of your server so that you can recover from disaster quickly, but there is nothing that says that that snapshot won't break down too--after all the web server and backup server are probably identical hardware-wise.

    If I may... once again...

Maintain your OWN backups, regardless of whichever external services you subscribe.

Nobody loves your data like you do!!!

@jason - Your analogy is okay, but to add to the point...

I think it sorta like entrusting the welfare of your children to public schools and (ahem) baby-sitters. If you depend on these services exclusively, I guarantee your 'kids' will turn out to be screwed up, despite everybody's best intentions!

It is an interesting question though, whether or not the backup service offered is itself using drives protected by RAID or not..

All new backup systems are on RAID 5, which is the major chunk of the backups. Some old ones may not be on RAID and will be phased out.
