    Email Woes. Mac Help

Can someone please give me a clue on how to overcome this issue?

    2007-07-07 / 06:31:10
    sample URL:
    Hello.

I know it has to do with an external app and not strictly your stuff but here goes.

I am unable to connect the mail client on my Mac (Mail) to my email config.

Here are the details on Mail.

    Account Description: Site Mail
    Full Name: XXX
    Email Address: 'XXX@domain.com'
    User Name: XXX
    Authenitication: Password

    Incoming Mail Server: mail.domain.com
    SSL: on
    Port: 25

    Outgoing Mail Server: mail.domain.com
    SSL: off
    Port: 25

I am just puzzled because I have been able to use similar settings on previous hosts and able to get messages sent if if go into webmail directly so I know the mailbox is working (I did notice that a test email sent from webmail never arrived though)

    Any clues?

    Thanks

    Hi,

I have noticed that you have 'on' SSL and you are using port 25, Please note that when we 'on' SSL we use port that is 465. Please reconfigure your email client with secure port 465, If the problem still remains then update me with your email account and password, So that I can configure here at my end for testing purpose.

Thanks for that. I take it I should go into the mail config settings on the server and change the port to 465 as well.

    Hi.

I changed the settings on mail to Port 465 and also changed the Source Port on the VPS to Port 465 for Input & Output for the POP3 Server but still get an error message

    CONNECTION FAILED
There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Check the settings for account "SiteMail" or try again.

The server error encountered was: The connection to the server "mail.domain.com" on port 0 timed out.

    Thanks

    Hi,

Please provide me the email account along with password so that I can configure here at my end. And can find the actual problem. Please also inform which email client you are using.

I only have one email box setup on the server so far.

    The info is attached.

    Thanks
    DOMAIN INFO
    Domain: domain.com
    UName: XXX
    Pword: XXX

    EMAIL INFO

    Hello

I think I managed to solve the issue. I changed to Port 995 on both the client and server.

    UPDATE:

I am able to receive incoming mail with the settings above but cannot send mail out from my client.

    Thanks

    Hi,

Ok fine, I have also configure here at my end using Outlook Express and I found three test emails there, Let us know if you need further assistance.

    Thanks.

Can you please try to send an email to 'XXX@gmail.com'using your Outlook config?

I am unable to send using my client and can only receive. I am trying to determine if this is to do with the server or my ISP.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,

I configured the Account within Outlook using the SSL options and got a message that the SSL we are trying to use to connect to the server is not available on the server. Anyhow the email was sent successfully.
Appears that you need to connect using port 110 for outgoing mail server and 25 for incoming mail server.
Because I was able to send the emails fine using the emails fine.

    Hello

Thanks for trying. I can't get it to work at all here using those settings but can receive using Port 995.

I notice I did not receive the test email you sent to 'XXX@gmail.com'.

Does this need to be escalated?

    Sorry to be a pain.

    Thanks

    Hi,

I have checked the emails are delivered fine and we did not get the bounce back messages. Moreover I have forwarded the email again that was sent by this account last time and it also went fine.
The logs also show the results fine.

    Thanks.

Sorry if this seems dense but did you send to 'myaddress@gmail.com'? As while I have the ones from you as support, I have nothing from 'XXX@domain.com'.

    Thanks again.

    Hi,

yes, I sent the mail to the email address 'myaddress@gmail.com' and it was delivered fine.
I have also checked with the logs and they are delivered fine. you need to check with gmail regarding this as the issue appears to be related to gmail.

Feel free to contact us, if you need further assistance.
I am getting emails from everywhere else including from him as suport despite the "gmail issue" and I can't send from the account.

I would have expected this to be an easy connection.

    Thanks for your help.

Sure I will find the answer here.

    Yeah...

    Incoming mail:
    POP3 Port 110 No SSL

    Outgoing Mail:
    SMTP port 465 requires SSL

    Do not use SPA

For the mail servers, use "secureXX.nocdirect.com" for both where XX is your server number,
and for the login info use your FULL email address (i.e. joe@example.com)

dayo is on VPS so he can't use "secureXX.nocdirect.com".

You are not receiving emails sent from your VPS at Gmail is different issue and you can't send email is a different issue. I have provided your the logs that show that the email is successfully being delivered from your VPS to Gmail. As far as the problem that you can't send email is concerned, it is due to the Mac mail configuration because the techs are able to send emails from Outlook without any issue.

    Thanks Smith. You did indeed.

The final situation is that I can receive emails but can't send. It may be an issue with Mail (although I am able to fully interact with gmail through it) or maybe something else is blocking/screening....perhaps ISP.

I will edit orig post and post title.

    opps, I can't.

    Hurrah!

    Can now do both!!!!!!

Perhaps you guys might want to note this for any other Mac users.

    1) Changing the firewall port was a bad idea. They should remain as configured. Port 110.

    2) Mail should be setup as follows. Outgoing Mail on Port 465 with SSL and Incoming (Advanced Tab) on Port 995 with SSL.

    Thanks All.

Just set another up on a different domain with the same setting and fine first time.

Gives a warning about the certificate the first time and that's it.
