    IP addresses

I just started an account, and got 3 IP addresses. In Plesk, I assigned three domains to the primary IP and set it to shared. I set one domain to the secondary IP. I have not changed my nameservers yet, but if I browse to that IP, shouldnt that site come up? Right now it comes up with a generic Plesk page saying the domain isnt set up. If I browse to the primary IP, I get the default domain I set up there... if the IPs are all tied to the primary, and DNS points it to the right place, shouldnt the secondary point to the primary? I dont know much about this stuff, but it seems like somethings not working right...can someone explain this to me?

I think that two of the IPs are for private name servers for you to use, but I don't know the details of how they are set up in DNS.
    Good luck

If you designate IPs to be NS, (which I did, following the many tutorials around, and just havent pointed anything at them yet...) can they not be used for anything else?

In theory, it should be possible to re-use them, like as a dedicated IP for a virtual host.

I recall Les saying something about how once an IP is used as a nameserver it becomes hard to reuse it again, or re-register them again, or something along those lines. It was a couple of years ago...
    Good luck

You can definitely use a nameserver ip as a unique ip for a domain you want too, like if you want ssl setup for that site alone etc.
In plesk, you go to Server -> ip addresses, click on "hosting" next to the ip you want and you can see the option to choose and set the domain you want as default ("set as default") for that ip address.

Thats what I thought. As far as I know, an IP is just a pointer to a server, and depending on what traffic I send on what port, it should do its thing. But there lies the problem: I did that. I have that IP set as the default domain on that IP, but if I bring up that IP in a browser, it goes to a generic Plesk page saying there is no domain set up. Now I felt like there should be one of two things happen: that domain pops up, or my default domain for my primary IP pops up. If I go to my primary IP, that domain comes up just like it should, but not the secondary.

Is something broken? I *think* so, but I could be wrong, and I'm just hoping someone can tell me and explain it if I am wrong...
