    VPS Nameserver Issue

    Hello,

I have recently joined JPC on one of their VPS Packages. I must admit I'm rather new to the VPS and dedicated world, so I'm not 100% confident yet of setting everything up.

The question I have is, I currently have a domain and a reseller package with another company, with the name servers of ns1.mydomain.com and ms2.mydomain.com. I have gone to my domain registrar (godaddy) and set up the new name servers I want for the JPC VPS - ns3.mydomain.com and ns4.mydomain.com. The issue I'm facing is any accounts set up (just test accounts for now) are not being pointed to the new server - a dns report from DNSSTUFF.com is stating

[11004]. Response: An error occurred: Couldn't resolve DNS server name/IP [ns4.mydomian.com] [11004]. Details: I could not get to the nameserver authoritative for www.testdomain.com. Sorry!

What am I net setting up properly?

I'm just guessing here, but don't they get set up as ns1 and ns2 here by default?
Can you log into your VPS and dig yourdomain.com and see what is in your nameserver?
    Good luck

have the new name servers propagated yet? you have to allow 24-732 hours for them to be picked up by the roots

I'm sure they have, the have had more then enough time to go through.

Im only able to get one domain to actualy work properly. All other domains which have the ns3.mydomain.com and ns4.mydomain.com are not pointing to the server. A trace route on those domain's (4 in total) comes up emptly, or reads as follows

    Host www.sampledomain.com not found: 2(SERVFAIL)

    Zone Information:

    ; <<>> DiG 9.2.4 <<>> www.sampledomain.com
    ;; global options: printcmd
    ;; Got answer:
;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: SERVFAIL, id: 43746
;; flags: qr rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 0, AUTHORITY: 0, ADDITIONAL: 0

    ;; QUESTION SECTION:
    ;www.sampledomain.com . IN A

    ;; Query time: 144 msec

Doing a DNS lookup for them in dnsstuff.com throws the lookup into a constant loop, yet it shows the name servers correctly, and states at the end of the DNS Lookup:

    Server Response Time
ns4.mydomiain.com [ns4.ip.address] [DNS server is not authoritative for this domain (points to com. DNS servers of A.GTLD-SERVERS.NET., etc.)] 28ms
ns3.mydomain.com [ns3.ip.address] [DNS server is not authoritative for this domain (points to com. DNS servers of A.GTLD-SERVERS.NET., etc.)] 30ms

Has the DNS Server been set up correctly?

    Hi tiptop,

You need to make sure ns3/ns4 are setup on your vps. If not sure how to, open a support ticket and we can help you.
