    Question Plesk 8.2 + MySQL 5

    Hello,

I would like to upgrade to PHP 5 and MySQL5 on my VPS (CentOS + Plesk 8.2). I don't feel really confident doing it myself on a remote system so I opened a ticket asking the techs for help. They were happy to install php5 for me but for MySQL they said "mysql 5 is not recommended/supported on Plesk. Please advice."

Some quick googling revealed that indeed the general trend is "don't do it" (although some posts found were dating back to 2006). Then you say that you installed it flawlessly and have no problems at all .. and you 're not the only one .. Im confused

I'd like to run MySQL 5 on my server but does it work reliably?

Do you know WHY you want MySQL 5? Its new features are highly oriented towards very large setups, i.e. ones with multiple database servers. I can't think of many reasons why you'd specifically want MySQL 5 over a recent MySQL 4 on a VPS. In particular: all the great character code support has been added in 4.1, that doesn't require 5.
