    What a drag...

Ya know, normally if you buy something, you have the right to expect it works when you buy it (at least for a while)... Apparently not true for dedicated servers. I ordered a Ded server and finally got it 20 some odd days later. I ordered one with 3 ips, 2 80 gig hard drives and an addon 250 gig hd. I GOT a server with one Ip and 2 80 gig hard drives, and although promised, I STILL haven't seen the 250 gig hard drive in the box yet....
Apparently, in this hosting business, the box just has to turn on and it's good enouph to sell.

Anyway, my latest server issue (and it's only been 4 days) is that everytime I load up WHM a have to reenter an A record for the hostname. I put two sites on the ded server, and both can't be found although they have surely resolved by now...

Please forgive my bitterness, but my 2 vps's and ded (Hmmm .. Ded is about right) thru Jaguar have NOT been too impressive lately. In fact, I'm about to take my business elsewhere...

If someone has experienced this problem, I'd be most grateful to hear how you solved it

    best,

    Jan

I did and have several times .. thank you for your help As I said please forgive me for my bitterness ... it's frustrating losing money rather than making it, and it's certainly nothing personal!

    Have a great day,

A problem like this very rarely happens at Jag. I have never experienced one before and have always found them helpful.

I have the same problem with WHM. I opened a couple of tickets about this, but finally gave up. I gave support my root password and got the reply "I don't see the A record error", so I assumed it's a WHM bug. My email works, with a couple of oddities that may or may not have anything to do with this.

I can't believe the part couple of tickets... it takes maximum 30 minuts to get an update on the ticket here in JPC...

but if there is any problem please try to describe it more to us so we may help you..

    Thanks.

I've had a few problems that required more than one tech look at it to find the problem. I never give up just because a tech tells me there is no problem. Having been here for 6 years, with sites on 3 servers those times have been few and far between.

I agree, support is usually very helpful, but this morning I got up and my sites won't load. They were loading last night... I contact support and they tell me the sites are fine cause they all load thru a proxy server, and my server is fine cause they can log into ssh.
Well, I can't load WHM or my sites on the server. If anyone can load this site, please let me know if it's just me and my neighbors that can't access anything on the server or what.

    http://www.adinstalls.com

Thats just one of 9 sites not loading....

    Thanks,

    Jan

    Talking ok.. it's working now

Support found it was the firewall .. guess I'm gonna have to learn the right ssh command to stop the firewall when it kills everything in the future!
    Thanks everyone for you comments

    The Saga continues ...

Sorry to keep posting here, but I'm about at wits end trying to keep the services and my sites up for even 1 day. The services sporadically go down thruout the day, and I'm having to stop the firewall to restart cpanel. Even after getting access to WHM again and restarting services, my sites won't stay available when navigating to a site on the (dead) Ded server thru a browser. This has been happening since day one.

All the sites but 1 have been down for a few hours now and restarting services has no affect getting them to be found in a browser.

I thought this might be a dns issue, but if I reboot the server, stop the firewall and restart everything, the sites will come back in about 10 minutes or so, and my email client can connect to each site to download email again, but this doesn't last long.... and actually, restarting httpd when just the sites go down has no affect on restoring the down sites....

All the sites dns zones look correct, and like I said the server will serve sites ect for a few hours then services start to die and I start getting emails stating this.

Domain registrar had no problem with the nameservers on any of the 9 sites when I transfered them.

If anyone has any ideas about this situation, I would appreciate hearing it

    Thanks for your consideration,

    Jan

    The server's IP is 69.73.140.61

    Update ...

I got tired of my sites being down, so I rebooted the server and restarted all the services. Three sites are now showing but the rest are still down.
The sites that are still down are:

    adinstalls.com
    adultshumor.com
    articleblaster.net
    friendlyarticles.com
    gamesmuse.com
    jansmart.info

If anyone can assess these sites please do let me know. I'm pretty sure the sites not being loadable in a browser are not on my end of things, but it's always good to make sure

Three of the above sites also have no connection to download email, and although I restarted the ftp server, there is still no ftp connection to any of the above sites ...

    Thanks,

    Jan

They're all coming up for me, however:

    adultshumor.com has a db error...

jansmart.info is nothing but a directory tree.

All the rest display just fine!

    Question Thanks for your time!

Now that is bizarre ... I ping adinstalls.com and I get an error msg:

"Ping request could not find host adinstalls.com. Please check the name and try a
    gain."

I can ping all the sites on my other two VPS's just fine, but those sites above on the ded server are not anywhere on the net that I can find ...

Ok .. I went to the neighbors who are on a different ISP and the sites can't be found on their computer either and ping doesn't find them. I wonder if the site's not being found is an area thing and all but three of the sites haven't resolved in my neck of the woods yet .. although I think the newest tranfered site was three days ago.

I will continue debugging on my end, and I thank you kindly for checking

    best,

    jan

I have checked from three different locations and the site adinstalls.com is responding to ping requests from all three locations. I have checked it from local PC, from a Jaguar server and from DNSstuff.com.

    it just gets stranger...

    Hey, thanks for checking

I have no clue whats going on. I can access jansmart.net, and adinstalls.com just came back online. My forum users kept checking on adinstalls.com and let me know when they could access it.
The weird thing is, I can access the sites thru a proxy server, but not navigating normally thru a browser to a site on that server. I also found I had to stop the iptables service competely.. otherwise nothing, including whm was accessible thu the browser. Thanks goodness for putty!

I can ping and trace route any other sites, including my sites on my two VPS's with no problem. Since everything I try says it can't find the domain, I am almost convinced that the sites haven't resolved fully yet, although it's been about 5 days for most of them.

I was thinking it might be the same firewall issue, but the server lets me ping, trace route and load jansmart.net (and now adinstalls.com) in the browser, so my IP can't be the problem (at least I don't think so), and it seems to me if my browser or isp were the problem, I wouldn't be able to access any of the sites or whm in a browser!

I've tried everything else I can think of, so I guess I'll see if there happens to be a gremlin in my computer case

    best,

    Jan
