    What Is System Usage

My System Usage is sitting at around 50% - but it maxed out last night. Is that referring to my RAM? Do I need to add more? I am running about ten or so WordPress installations and thats it.

This is a copy/paste from the help page:

This is a cumulative figure presenting the averaged consumption of a number of critical memory-related parameters by your VPS.

    The problem is privvmpages

I am exceeding it in some cases. So what could I do to keep that in line?

Tony - if you are running Spam Assassin set maximum children to 2. You can find the option to change this setting in the plugins section of WHM. If you do not see the Spamd Startup Configuration in plugins you must activate it in the cPanel plugins section of WHM.

A good option to do is install ASSP and use it instead of Spam Assassin - requires a smaller footprint.

Here is a thread on ASSP:
What are your opinions on ASSP spam filter?

You can also configure Apache somewhat to run leaner.

In WHM under Security there is an option to Modify Apache memory Usage.

Here is a thread on tweaking Apache:
    Securing and Optimizing your server

You can turn off ClamAV to save RAM.

Also in Service Configuartion -> Service Manager, uncheck Enabled and Monitor for the following: entropyChat, interchange, & melange to disable them.

There are a few things you can do as mentioned above to use less RAM on your VPS, but upgrading to more RAM is an easy option.

Frank, thanks for the info, but unfortunately I am running Plesk.

I wish I knew how to identifying what is causing the burst. SpamAssassin is enabled but I use the email very rarely.

My problem seems to be more kmemsize although privvmpages is also a problem. I'm running average loads of 0.3% of my CPU limits but kmemsize has been running between yellow and black for the last three days. It's currently 99.5% of the maximum and I don't know what to do.

Thursday night the entire system went down and again Friday night. It came back up without a problem each time but I'm still holding my breath.

I added 128 MB of memory at the suggestion of tech support but that hasn't made a difference. I just turned off ClamAV and set the children for spamd to 2 with no apparent effect. Also have the chat and melange options turned off.

Looking at Virtuozzo's help for kmemsize, it looks like this may be an OS issue since kmemsize relates to the "unswappable kernel memory."

UPDATE: Something's changed! My kmemsize is now 10% of what is was when I started writing this. I hope it's Frank's suggestions. And that it doesn't go up again.
