I'd go for CentOS as well, it derives from RHEL and has the 5 year support we need. Not to mention that its very familiar to use since we use Fedora as a desktop os on our systems.

The top distributions are all pretty much alike in those aspects you mention, which isn't surprising, as they all distribute the same software. The major differences are in system administration and thus what works best is what the administrator is most familiiar with. So, if you're going to manage the VPS mainly yourself, stick to Debian because you know it so well. If you're going to lean heavily on JagPC for managing it, take CentOS, as that's what they're most familiar with.

I've been running CentOS on my servers for about a year now and love it. It is very stable and each to administer. Of course, I got my Linuux start on Red Hat, so the move makes sense for me. As Gwaihir already mentioned, if you already have familiarity with Debian then that is probably the best way to go for you if you plan to do most of your own administration.

Hi to all, thanks so much for the answers ... i want to get this promo: VPS Special: FREE Month, Plesk, 50% More + Big Discounts. x2 RAM on Windows VPS and i see that those plans includes http://www.jaguarpc.com/vps-hosting/managed-vps.php This managed features ...

I want MySQL and PostrgeSQL support on a server (really, PostreSQL it's only used only in one site) ... i will start with the 192MB RAM Server, it runs better with Debian or CentOS (and Plesk)?

I want to JP to make upgrades, and some things, but i want to manage some things too, monitoring, security, install software if i need it, etc ...

So ... what do you recomend to me ? ... Debian or CentOS ... with your recomendations is possible to get Debian, or to get CentOS ... what is the entire differece to make installations, administration, etc ?

I guess i will get Debian ... but, JP can make upgrades, etc on an easy way with the minimun impact and get the most time server alive ?

Thanks so much for the info !!

If you want JaguarPC to do any of the work CentOS would be best as that is what they use day in and day out. I am sure Masood is good at all flavors but not everyone may be.

I would suppose they can do the standard upgrades (keeping the kernel, PHP, MySQL etc fine) for each of the distributions they're offering. It's whatever you customise you may be a bit on your own with.

With 192MB you have another issue though. IIRC only VPSses WITH a control panel are managed by JagPC and the control panel eats considerable memory. In particular WHM/CPanel is no good under 256MB. Running two different database servers alongside eachother will aggrevate this hunger for memory, as each has a minimum memory footprint.
