debian upgrade from sarge (3.1) to etch (4.0)

    Hi,

I just got my VPS set up. I requested Debian and got Sarge (I had assumed we'd be getting Etch which is the latest stable release and came out 6 months ago).

This is my first VPS, so I thought I should ask before messing things up. Can I upgrade to Etch myself using apt? Are there any special steps I need to take?

    Thanks.

Please open a ticket to have your vps re-setup on Etch (4.0)

    can't just do it myself?

I can't just do it myself then with apt? I was just worried about what would happen when apt tries to upgrade the kernel, because of the way Virtuozzo guests use the host's kernel. I read elsewhere that Virtuozzo will just ignore the new kernel, but I thought I should check first. I'd rather do it myself if I can.

If you have the time to play, sure go ahead. But since Virtuozzo supports etch out of the box, why not try it? It may save you lots of disk space.

    thanks

Thanks, I'll give it a shot. If it fries I'll open a ticket to have the OS reinstalled as Etch.

    Cheers.
