    Default Email Account Problems

    Hi

I have just had my VPS setup. Things are going well but I have ran into a problem. It's related to the default email account that is setup automatically with each account with WHM. I have setup a forwarder within cPanel to forward mail for aperson@domain.com -> username (the default mail account). Then when testing this setup an entry stays in the emai message que and the problem line appears to be

"The mail server could not deliver mail to username@server1.myvpsserver.com" The server appears to have problems find the default mail account for each domain.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I would say that it is really a bad idea to use the default email address. The default email address should be set to :fail: and this is we recommend to all of our clients and this is recommended. The very basic purpose of default email address is to receive any unrouted email sent for your domain. e.g If you don't have the email address XYZ@yourdomain.com and someone sends an email to XYZ@yourdomain.com, it will not be rejected but will be delivered to default email address. This will cause the load issues too because your VPS will accept every email sent to yourdomain.com.

Please create the proper email accounts and setup forwarder for them.

    Um...

It works great for a repository of CRON output!

Other than that, I don't see much promise in it, myself...

I understand your point and do agree with it but I had this working with my previous host and would like the option to have it working again. I should be able to send email to the default email account using the following yes?:

    accountusername@server.vpsserver.com

Using the default account you can still setup unrouted email to fail. I just want the option of setting up an account without having to setup any additional email accounts, as I did with my previous host. Just setup forwarders to deliver to the default account which is where the problem is arrising. Any emails to the default account are getting returned with unknown user error.

If you want to use it this way, please open a support ticket and mention in it that how you want it to work and we will check it out.

CRON Output is the other use. So I need to get this working really if only for that.

The mail server could not deliver mail to username@server.vpsserver.co.uk. The account or domain may not exist, they may be blacklisted, or missing the proper dns entries.

    I have blanked out above...

    Am I missing something here?

To my way of thinking, the default addy should be: accountusername@domainname.com

No, the cPanel default email address is accountusername@hostname.com.

If you look at a response email from a CRON Job you will see that it is sent to something like: username@server.vpsserver.com which does make sense.

If I was to setup a domain called mydomain.com (username mydom) on my server which is called myserver on myhost.co.uk I would expect CRON results would be sent to the default account which would be mydom@myserver.myhost.co.uk. On my VPS it appears that would not work. It woudl say unable to find account.

I take it you mean subdomain, not domain...

Anyway, I think that subdomain name would be a no-no!

Like, you cannot have a subdomain called 'www'...

Not bringing subdomains into it at all.

I don't think I'm getting my point accross well enough.

Ok this might help. I want to send an email to the default account of one of my domains on my server. I should be able to send to the following addresses:

    account_username@domain.com
    and
    account_username@server1.myhost.com

Both of thoose should delivery email to the default account. But I get errors when using either.

I can submit ticket but I just wanted to see if anyone had come accross this before.

inside your WHM control panel go to the page where you edit your contact information, CRON ourput emails for me always come from the default root@hostname.com but i receive them on the email i have specified in WHM as my contact email...

the only "default" emails that are username@domain.com or username@hostname.com are the actual cpanel accounts themselves like vin said...

ok let me make this simplier. I cannot send email to username@domain.com. It would bounce back saying the account could not be found, where username above is the default account username.

I am not correct in thinking that if I created abcgames.com (abcgames) that emails sent to abcgames@abcgames.com would be delivered to the default email account without having to setup any extra pop3 accounts or forwarders??

i would just create a new email address rather than use the default "cpanel_user@domain.com" scenario... it would be much easier than getting this to work... exactly why do you need to use the default email address?
