    When WHM is down, how can I update site IPs?

    I depend on cPanel WHM to help manage a small vps. I know, I know, the purists wouldh't have it...and they are exactly who I need to help me this Thanksgiving morning.

    We replaced the main IP last night, me and the Dream Team, after three days of planning. I went in and updated the Main IP.

    I then went to Account Functions, Change Site's IP address and started updating each one, per the webhosting company's tech staff instructions.

    After getting three done, the WHM stated that I no longer had a license...well, they'll get me one tomorrow...I think. I've had the ticket open for ten hours and no one has responded at all.

    Where can I go on the server to affect the same change that was done by the Change Site's IP address in WHM?

    Those first few accounts are up and fine, but I can't bring others up.

    I've tried usr/local/apache/conf/sites and var/named, but neither's site files, when the IP is updated, have any effect.

    Anybody got an answer? This is a Linux unit using Centos5.

    without them, my Thanksgiving would be just normal
    Thanks!

    irishrow,

    I can assure you there are no unanswered tickets in the support queue. If it is in the sales queue, please provide the ticket number here and we can check it.

    12602486 is the ticket number, and Veena, I can assure you it was a tech support ticket when I opened it. Thanks for any help you can offer.

    Licensing is a sales issue. You do not need new license. Just need to update license IPs for any and all licensed software.

    BTW, why did you change the main IP?

    Why I Changed the Main IP

    Veena, you mean you haven't looked at the ticket yet? I changed it because the IP was blacklisted by Yahoo. It had been registered with an Egyptian company and god only knows wha t they did to earn the ire of Yahoo, but as soon as we moved to the new server with that IP assigned, my Exim queue averaged 250 yahoo emails at a time. They were being held from 3 days to forever.

    I'm sorry, that info should have been addressed to Masood.

    And, since I'm responding, Masood, I opened a tech ticket a few days ago on this, the one cited above. If you peruse the ticket you learn that:

    1. I've asked for a bit of planning to go into the IP update;
    2. A junior member of your staff evidently skipped the part where the IP switch was to be made on Thanskgiving Eve night and started it instead in the middle of Tuesday, right smack in the heart of one of the busiest retail days of the year, and, yes, my biggest customer's biggest day and dropped the server for about two hours; finally re-installed the original IP and graciously apologized;
    3. We went over and over and over what needed to be done last night and all agreed;
    4. It didn't happen as we planned it. Somewhere along the line, evidently, my ticket was "re-classified" as a sales ticket--which is totally transparent to me; I really see no way of knowing what you do with these tickets or what your protocol for handling them is (I'll take the blame for being a client that depends on WHM and didn't know how to update the site IPs outside of cPanel, but I'll not take the blame for failing to understand the pecking order of your customer service scheme);
    5. The license transfer/update/validation did not occur.
    6. I've been sleeping next to the computer all night waiting for an answer from you. I still wouldn't have one if I hadn't gotten utterly DESPERATE and tried this forum.

    Does that explain where I think we're at and how we got here? Thanks for your concern and response.

    Oh, and I've just heard from tech support that my WHM is back up and running...all of my accounts...well, the ones that don't use MS Exchange Servers...are back up!

    It's a glorious Thanksgiving morning, Masood!!!

    I've just spent nine hours pounding on a keyboard to get this IP issue resolved and

    and

    and

    and I'm right back where I started, with the old IP!!!

    Well, the one good thing that's come out of this is that I've been wished a "Happy Thanksgiving, anyway" from half a dozen of my clients that normally wouldn't think of me as part of their family on this occasion.

    Yes, this was both badly planned and executed. This should have been dealt through sales department.
