    JPC Backups

I haven't been through this before so if someone can enlighten me I would like to know the scenario, in the status thread it says they are restoring from backup. Does the server just come online with whatever the backup is?

The reason I'm asking is i have quite an active forum and I have my own database backup that is from yesterday afternoon. I would prefer the server not go online if the backup they have is older so I can restore my own. I don't want people posting only to have to tell them, sorry, but you're about to lose these new posts too...

Should I open a ticket to find out when the backup is from?

I guess i could request that my VPS not be started if I have more recent backup?

It's definitely worth asking the question. I'm not sure that they could NOT restart your VPS as the node comes back up - It's probably an automated process. But, most forums have a "Maintenance mode" you can switch to where a message is displayed to visitors telling them that you're doing something behind the scenes and to come back in a bit. Maybe use that while you're checking the currency of the data - At least your visitors will know that your site is on the way back up

The restore doesn't pin point your own specific VPS, it will restore the entire node, including your vps.

Once its online, quickly check if its from a recent backup and if not then upload your own on top of it.

They will restart the vps from the old backup (I am in exactly the same position as you I already asked the same question both last week and this week

The only thing you can do is watch for the domain to go live and then take it offline yourself as they are running on an automated system.

I would be very tempted to ask them to restore your backup for you (I am going to) because its possible they will still be working on the server after your VPS comes back online simply because each vps comes on line as its complete, if you happen to be the 1st VPS they will still be restoring all the rest after yours is running.

Thanks, I'll see what other responses I get. I don't want to bother anyone that can be busy making sure this is going correctly. :P Besides, I have time... watching this restore process is like watching a 1GB download on 56k .

Let me know what they say, the only thing I need restored is one database.

Any suggestions to prevent this in the future? I could add some code to check a timestamp or ??? to trigger the forum to disable it self or disable posting but what do I check. I suppose I could set a time limit from last post time to current time but my forum dies out for about 10 hours each day. hmmmmmmm.
