Since I added a 5 pack of IPs to my VPS (I only needed one for an SSL on my main site), I've been getting a lot of entries in the messages log like these on the unused/unassigned IPs:
Code:
Jan 13 03:24:44 vps named[24115]: lame server resolving 'islameiat.com' (in 'islameiat.COM'?): 69.73.x.x#53
Jan 13 03:31:58 vps named[24115]: lame server resolving 'tatweer.com' (in 'tatweer.COM'?): 69.73.x.x#53
I count 4017 'lame server' entries in my messages logs starting 25-May-2006 thru 29-Nov-2007. I added the new IP addresses on 30-Nov-2007. Since then, there have been 55,940 such messages, mostly targeted at the same two new IP addresses. Neither of those IPs is currently assigned to anything.

The 'lame server' has to do with someone trying to do a dns lookup on an address. I think the IP address listed in the message is meant to be the DNS IP, but I'm not sure. This makes me wonder if my new IP addresses used to be someone's DNS IPs.

I've also been experiencing occasions where the VPS responds very slowly (up to 4 minutes to refresh the VZPP page). On two occasions I had to resort to having the help people reboot my VPS, because I could not from the panel.

I don't know if the two things are related or not.

Any insights would be helpful.
