    Plesk >>> Cpanel

I have Plesk I'm beginning to think it was a mistake, not necessarily thats its any bad but I'm having hard time finding information anytime I want to do anything with it. Just seems there is lot more information out there for Cpanel.

Has anybody done this switch? Painless? I'm assuming Jag does most of the footwork?

Well I almost switched to Interworx before from cPanel but didn't because of the massive headache it would have caused...

What I would suggest doing is talking to sales. Tell them that you would like to do the switch. The first thing they say is be sure to have EVERYTHING backed up because they are going to destroy your VE... Just ask them nicely to create a new one for you, leaving the old one, so that support can properly do the conversion.

Once support does the conversion, ask them to unbind the IP addresses from your old VE and then rebind them to the new VE. By doing so, you will be keeping your IP addresses.

Once you do all of that, you can then move the ticket back to sales to request the old VE be destroyed. BUT only after YOU have complete backups of everything in case the transfer support did went bad... When I say complete backups, don't use cPanel to do them. Manually go through and tarball everything.

It may sound like a daunting task, but it will not be that bad if you do what I described... That is how myself and sales intended to do the switch, but in the end, I didn't do it...

Now I am not real sure if they will still do that or not, but I imagine they would!

BTW, I am not sure which plan you have, but be prepared to bump up your RAM! cPanel recommends 256MB, but I would suggest at least 384MB! When running on 256, you will most likely hit memory limits!

If the automobile had followed the same development cycle as the computer, a Rolls-Royce today would cost $100, get a million miles to the gallon, and explode once every few weeks.

My scripts never have bugs. They just develop random features.

Well the beatuy of this is I only have one site on it, one database and a few email adresses. I've haven't installed anything but imagemagick(which I'm not using) and other than few tweaks to the php.ini there really hasn't been anything else. Soo... Should not be that much work.

cPanel/WHM includes a "Copy an account from another server" option, which includes from a Plesk server. I've never used it, but it could be an easy route to go if you order a cPanel box a couple of days before cancelling the Plesk VPS and use the overlap to get your stuff across?
