    Need advice

Hi, I need advice from you all. I have site which have 6k unique visitor per day and around 100 user online at same time. I want to place order on "DISCOVERY PLAN" (I have low budget). My question is that plan can handle my site (with 128 RAM). Btw, I have problem, I dont have any experience in Linux or VPS so I dont know how to start my site with VPS. I heard at VPS, you must install app at yourself, it's hard for me cuz I never use Linux entire my life.

The discovery plan might be a bit too lightweight for you. Think about running a site the size of yours on a couputer from 10 years ago, that's essentially what you'd be doing with a discovery VPS.

As for the VPS, JPC does give you free support with the VPS (provided you also purchase a control panel), so you aren't totally on your own in that regard. They will help you out as you get up to speed and whenever you get stuck--just open a ticket. At the same time, though, it is best to do some reading up on things like Linux administration and Linux security (there is a great thread on securing your VPS on this forum) so that you don't feel totally lost and so that you can handle things yourself if an emergency arises.

If you get a control panel it will, many times, handle most of the software installs and updates for you automatically. For anything it doesn't handle, most Linux distros have package distribution networks that allow you to install or upgrade most common software with a single command. Occasionally you may need to compile something from scratch if you want to use some uncommon tool or configuration--if you get stuck there is a great network of experienced users right here to help you out.

With respect to control pannels, the Discovery plan doesn't have enough RAM to run cPanel. If you want cP as your control pannel you will either have to move up to the next plan or add an extra 128Mb. I have a Discovery VPS with Interworx, though, and it works great.

Maybe you don't need a VPS, but would be more comfortable on a GigaDeal or an SDX plan.

What software are you running on your website(s)?
    Good luck

I would think your best bet is the SDX package:

Plenty of power for growth, great amount of storage space 47gig, bandwidth is 17gig a day up to 510 a month.

I was in your shoes. The learning curve isn't bad with the pretty contol panels and such. (and all these helpful folks ^^^) You won't have to touch a command line if you're using the basic stuff (apache, php, perl, mysql, etc.). They do the installs for you and you control everything with the CP. They have nice docs to lead you through a site migration too. Pure testimonial: I signed up a week ago and already have my domain coming here and my 4000 user forum running here. Would have been sooner but for the old host giving me a DB backup. And I never touched linux before last week.

As far as power, it all depends on what you're serving up. Bandwidth and system proc/mem will be the limiting factors. If those 1000 ppl are downloading big files or using a php app that does a lot of DB work and processing, you need more.

If it's a simple html site, it would be no problem. I imagine your reality lies somewhere in the middle so give them more info to work with.

PHP? CGI? DB Size? Maybe a known web app like a forum or image hosting app? What are you wanting to serve up?

An SDX is cheaper than a VPS with control (as a Discovery won't handle that) and it gives more power and less worries. zirkov: if you think you specifically need a VPS for some reason, do post it here and we'll verify that for you. If you have no such reason, go with SDX .
