    VPS Reselling?

I am new to this, but have a friend who is with JaguarPC. He says he has a VPS account along with the reselling software (WHM, phpCOIN, cPanel, Fantastico, etc.). He is reselling his space to friends and I would like to do the same. Do I have to sell only VPS accounts if I get a VPS plan? Can I sell just sell space for websites? What's the difference? I saw the VPS reseller matrix, but I have no idea what that really means. Am I selling space out of my 15GB that I purchase or am I selling other 15GB spaces? What is all the required/optional software that I can get and how do I get it when I sign up?

I'd like to get started as soon as possible so any information would be appreicated.

    Thanks.

    Travis

With both type of accounts you would be selling spots out of your space allocated. You can oversell. The main difference is that a VPS provides full root access allowing you to do much more tweaking to your system.

    Both will work for reselling.

    VPS Reselling?

Thanks, Frank. What exactly does overselling mean? I get the fact that you can sell more resources, but then are you charged on that immediately or eventually? I figure JPC wants to sell you as much as possible, but do you know what is the process once you hit your limit?

I think the clincher for going with VPS is that I get the computer resources to myself. I don't want someone else's business interrupting with my customers.

I just hope they have some instructions on security. I am a computer programmer myself, but Windows-based. I don't have a lot of server admin experience with Unix/Linux systems (actually, none). That would be the only thing I worry about is having an unsecure server.

    Thanks.

Overselling means that you sell more than you actually have knowing that most of your clients won't try to use all you've offered. This lets you maximize your investment.

Basically, you have a large block of space you can partition among your users--say 15GB. You want to sell that space to others in 1GB increments. You have 16 people that want to buy, but you know that most of them won't use the full gigabyte you give them. You go ahead and create 16 1Gb accounts and they all share your 15Gb of space, but since few of them don't ever try to use all of it they don't realize that there isn't enough to go around. JPC doesn't charge you extra because you aren't using more than your allotment.

It is similar to the phone companies. Have you ever picked up the phone and not heard a dial tone? That's because the phone company doesn't have enough circuits for all of their customers to make a call at one time. It doesn't happen often, but occasionally they run out of circuits and you have to wait a few minutes for one to open before you can make a call. They could add circuits for all of their customers, but since most of us wouldn't be using them most of the time it simply isn't economical.

Now, if you do oversell it is up to you to keep an eye on your overall disk space. If you see you are getting close to your limit, then you need to add more before your clients start seeing "out of space" errors and compain because they aren't using their full gigabyte yet.

The other thing you saw on the JPC site--about VPS reselling--is for selling full VPS plans to others. If you want to offer that as an extra service you can. You simply order extra VPSes and pass them on to your clients. JPC then gives you discounts based on how many you "own," whether they are used by you or resold to someone else. These they are completely independent of your own VPS.

    Hope that clears thing up...

    Jason,

Thank you for the explanation. I would assume that when it gets close I just contact JPC and add more space on or move up a level.

    I appreciate it.

I just got my VPS Discovery package and am very excited. I hope everything works out as I hope.

    Thanks again,

    Travis

Reading your original question it seems to me you are asking if you have to resell VPS account to others. In fact you will not be able to resell vps accounts at all with your VPS accounts. Hosting a VPS inside of a VPS is not a good idea and would lead to serious performance problems.
