VPS & Dedicated -- Open ports?

I am interested in acquiring a VPS or Dedicated as a means of providing a game & ventrilo server. Do these VPS and Dedicated servers allow traffic from non-standard ports? Are there firewalls that need to be adjusted to get things going? Thanks.

By default all your ports are open when you buy a VPS.

a VPS isn't powerful enough to run game servers, you need a dedicated server.

A VPS is nothing more than a Linux (or Windows) default install. You can set it up however you want. If you decide to add a control panel then the cp you choose may configure a firewall, but you'll still have full control over it.
