why is swap zero?

I've noticed the hosting panel, cpanel and console "free" all show the swap for the machine as zero used.
It this normal?
Does this mean no one has swap enabled.
I *think* I do and I'm out of memory so I'd expect I'd be using swap space.

As posted in my newbie thread.
My VPS seems to use almost 400M ram at boot.
Memory usage creeps up over time.
It is currently sitting at 450ish and can no longer grab enough memory to run cpanel.
I have 256M fitted so I shouldn't be able to run at all without burst or swap.

I'm on Server : cydon.nocdirect.com

You may want to review any startup services and programs that your VPS is starting when it boots, There may be some that you don't need. What operating system is your VPS? you may want to check into other types of swap options like swapd. I use it on my machines at home as swap memory is created dynamically when it is needed. http://sourceforge.net/projects/swapd/

I did see some swap being used the other day.
It may simply be the server has enough ram that swap hasn't been needed.
When I opened the account only 42% ram was being used.
Now it is about %60 and swap may be starting to kick in.

This is an old thread.
My account wasn't set up properly by Jag and this was fixed.
The VPS has been pretty solid since - some services rebooted a few days again but no down time.
