Can I install SQL Server 2005 Express and ASP.Net 3.5?

I'm trying to install SQL Server 2005 Express and version 3.5 of the ASP.Net framework on my VPS (Windows Server 2003 Express Edition).

However, after downloading the file and going through the motions, ASP.Net 3.5 Framework reports "ServiceModelReg.exe - Application Error Application has generated an exception that could not be handled".

I've downloaded SQL Server 2005 Express several times, but each time after it's finished extracting the files it says the file is corrupt.

Should I be able to install them ok, or are the resources on the VPS too limited? Should I be looking at a dedicated server?

What VPS plan are you on?

Have you looked at your event log for additional information? What events related to this do you see? ServiceModelReg.exe seems to be related to IIS based on what I could find on google.

You should be able to install SQL Server and .NET 3.5 on your VPS as long as you meet the system requirements. And since those requirements arent very demanding I don't think this is a resource problem.

Ah good thinking. I had a look at the verbose log file and near the bottom it has a load of errors such as: MSI (s) (20:E4) [18:37:01:285]: Product: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 Service Pack 1 - Update '.NET Framework WCS' could not be installed. Error code 1603. Additional information is available in the log file C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\dd_NE T_Framework30_Setup097C.txt.

I looked up error code 1603 and it means fatal error!

I had a hunt in google, someone suggested a reboot and disabling IIS. That I did and ASP.Net 3.5 installed nicely!

I shall try SQL 2005 Express tommorow and let you know how it goes.

    Thanks for your help!
