    GoDaddy Domain

My domain is registered through GoDaddy, so I watched the tutorial on how to get my VPS setup with them so I could change the nameservers over to the ones created for my VPS here.

I think the video is outdated because the steps don't match anymore.

I went to my GoDaddy and then to "Host Summary", added the IPS for my VPS plus the hostname which was vps.domain.com, after a few minutes is showed up in my control panel on GoDaddy.

I still needed to change my nameservers, so I to the "Nameserver" tab and entered the nameservers given to me for my VPS which were n1,ns1.domain.com, but when I click "Ok", GoDaddy is saying they are not registered.

    Did I miss a step?

Is a DNS Server running on your VPS? (Linux or Windows VPS?) Those IPs are attached to your VPS, but they won't work as name servers, unless you configure a name server (DNS Server).

JaguarPC gave me my two nameservers as well as the IPs, I registered the IPs at Godaddy yesterday, but the nameservers are coming up "Not Registered".

Is this a JAG or GoDaddy issue?

Let me see if I can help out since I have my VPS set up with godaddy.

Go to the my domains section of your go daddy account. Click on the domain that will be your primary VPS domain (the one that will host your name servers).

On the bottom left corner you'll see "Host Summary (add)". Click on add.

Under hostname put in what ever you want to name your name server, I personally prefer ns1 for the first name server. For host ip put in the first IP address Jag gave you. Click "ok". Then go back and click add again. This time for host put in ns2 and for Host IP 1 put in the second IP address that Jag gave you. Click ok.

After this you can try to set your domain's nameservers to ns1.yourdomain.com and ns2.yourdomain.com; however, it might not let you do it right away since this could require 48 hours, I'm not sure on this part.

Hope that helps. I think you confused what you needed to add to the host summary, it is not supposed to be vps.mydomain.com, its supposed to be ns1.mydomain.com and then ns2.mydomain.com each with its own unique IP.

@thehotweb, that explanation was the clearest one I have seen. It worked perfectly.

    Thanks alot.

15 minutes after I did the steps you outlined above, by domain was pointing to my VPS and I can now edit and get my project up.

    I owe you one.

    Glad I could help.

you might also want to run a DNS report to make sure everything is set up properly, if you get any errors you can create a ticket to have them corrected:

Thanks for the link, a couple of errors and warnings came up, not sure if they are a big deal or not, but will let support know.
