I am relatively unfamiliar with the technical makeup and structure of a Virtuozzo VPS account with Jaguar. About a year ago we purchased a vps account and have been very happy with it.
However, one thing that I've tried to figure out and haven't had much luck with is pinpointing what exactly is taking up all of the disk space.
One example of this is that I have a file in my home directory named "reinstallmailman.strace". This file is taking up 2.1GB. When I asked support about it I was given this response:
"The file "reinstallmailman.strace" is a debugging tool for your mail system. Feel free to contact us if you need further assistance. Thank you for choosing JaguarPC and have a great day."
I then responded:
"A debugging tool that takes 2.1 GB? Is this something that support put in my home directory? Is it used regularly?"
and got this answer:
"If space is not an issue for you I would strongly advise that you do not delete this file. It was a pleasure working with you feel free to contact us if you need further assistance. Thank you for choosing JaguarPC and have a great day."
So, as you can see above my question was never really answered other than I am strongly advised not to delete the file. Let me first say that I am 99% happy with support. They do an awesome job. That being said, my single issue with support is that sometimes they are so quick to give a response and help you out that they don't always answer the question in a thorough fashion. I hate to pester support because I know they probably have a lot of work to do. So does anyone know what this tool is and could possibly give me more information on it?
Also, can someone point me to a description of the structure of the VPS and all of the apps and things that are installed that are potentially taking up disk space. Before I purchase more disk space I would like to know what log files and other useless space hogs could potentially be deleted to help preserve disk space.
Thanks!
Jared
