    Which servers affect me?

I know the server node for my VPS is troy.nocdirect.com, but what other servers should I be looking at when reviewing network status as a possible cause of inability to access it remotely using the control panel?

For example scorpius.nocdirect.com has evidently been having recurring problems with /var "going readonly" over the past couple of weeks, and the notices have mentioned possible intermittent loss of service as a result -- but the notices don't say *who* may have intermittent loss of service. Scorpius.nocdirect.com is idendified as an "SDX" server, but I don't know what an SDX server does.

    Thanks,

    Rebeccah

SDX stands for "Semi-Dedicated" and it is a type of shared hosting account, it shouldn't affect you.
    Good luck

In most cases, and and with most other hosts, servers are stand-alone. All of the services that affect your account are running on one server, so you are pretty much unaffected unless you see the actual server you are on listed as being down.

Generally the only thing that will affect an account that isn't hosted on the server itself--with the exception of VPS accounts--is DNS. JPC uses a set of separate DNS servers for all of their "normal" servers. Since you're on VPS, though, you're likely running your own DNS service and, as a result, you're 100% standalone.

    Thanks, guys.

We don't do our own DNS, but don't need it for anything but outbound name resolution on maintenance scripts anyway.

Good to know what SDX means.

Your visitors will need DNS, to find you
