I've got a new client that has ask if we could sync with a blackberry or run blackberry server for emails, calendars etc. I'm clueless on this but doesn't the blackberry server only run on Exchange and not Linux?
Thanks

Blackberry can have a desktop client that will work with Outlook or other email programs.
I can see that a desktop client would work but if they are like me the whole point is not to be around the desktop - otherwise I don't see the point. I have an old Trio that works fine for me but when want to use it is not when I'm around my desktop but when I'm traveling.

The subject intrigues me...

Microsoft exchange should be able to do this. Unfotunately I don't think Jag offers exchange hosting. Might be something worth while for them to look in to. Or you can look in to getting your own windows VPS but exchange administration is by no means simple. For some supid reason however you will also need blackberry professional software express or the blackberry enterprise server to cleanly integrate with exchange (I hate these greedy bastards).

At the very least they'll be able to get their emails. I can't remember the exact details, but it's just a question of filling out a RIM webform with port numbers, server names etc.
As for syncing, calendars, etc you can do it with Zimbra (I believe), although managing Zimbra is probably about as pleasant as managing Exchange. You'ld need the commercial version of Zimbra and you'ld probably need to pay again for the RIM plugin/module/whatever.
There may be some helpful tidbits on the ubuntu forums (or not).

Thanks - zimbra looks interesting. I've not had any significant request for blackberry server and I'm sure not interested in managing exchange so if the client has got to have it I'm going to pass.
