    problem setting up ftp

I'm having a problem setting up an ftp directory on a site on my vps. I made the directory a subdomain as subdomain.site.com using cpanel and can't log in. I've tried various changes to the ownership/group for this directory and even set permissions on the directory to 777. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

We are sorry to hear that you are facing this problem. If you have followed the steps of creating FTP account completely then most likely you may be using incorrect information but I am not sure. Please open a support ticket by login into the client area of your account. Provide us complete details with exact steps to reproduce this issue in the ticket and techs will look into it immediately. Thank you.

    Really, I *think* it's a cPanel thing.

If you guys figure it out, please let me know!

BTW, look at my "Join Date"...

So what rookie, what does Mar 2009 have to do with anything (as I leave my glasses on the counter).

Are you using the complete user@domain.com as your login name?

Okay, let's slow down and *think* about it a little...

FTP has been around forever! Why, because it works great - it has ERROR correction built-in, which MOST file transfer protocols DO NOT. Yes, ALMOST ALL file transfer protocols have error DETECTION, but they DO NOT have error CORRECTION. FTP does! [emphasis added, because I know you think you're croaking - you aren't - but I'll play along].

Traditionally, the only problem with FTP is it is unsecure as hell - in the wild. On your LAN - no problem! Over the web - BIG problem!

I never (how I hate to use that N-word) had a problem with FTP until I came here - and I'm JagPC's biggest cheerleader - always have been, always will be - until death do us part...

IMHO, the FTP 'problems' at this ASP are because of cPanel attempting to lock-down FTP to the point that it's practically unusable - and so it should be!

Sooo, I'm NOT finding fault with either JaguarPC or cPanel/WHM, in a traditional sense - but rather making a tongue-in-cheek comment and - if you'll pardon the pun - a bit of sarcophagi...

    Make more sense now, Frankie?
