    new vps

ok i'm new with jpc vps.
when i saw it's managed vps i thought i just sit back and wait jpc setup my vps and just use it...

i thought i just use the whm/cpanel and do what i did like i'm in shared/reseller hosting and leave the 'manage' part to jpc?

then i came to this forum and see lots of tips tricks securing etc...
(these all old thread, before jpc sell managed vps, isnt it????)

    now...
    which part is jpc managed?
shouldnt all vps preconfigured and pre-secured and pre-hardened just like how they did to their own servers they use for shared/reseller hosting?

which part (other than managing whm/cpanel) need me ssh to my vps to configure myself?

maybe a 'quick start' guide for new vps somewhere...??

You can treat it like that. I think support will happily manage at the OS-level and at the app-level - if it is a standard app that you're not trying to use in an exciting and innovative way. That is mostly what WHM does anyway.

They try to keep clear of web-application issues, and rightly so, but _may_ be able to help with some problems.

VPS and Dedicated boxes are by their very nature more bespoke than off the shelf. I imagine that's why there might be less pre-configuration. What you consider to be hardening might just be an irritation to others. Should hardening of PHP include suhosin, for example? It can cause conflicts and issues with PHP apps (eg. phpMyAdmin).

As another example, databases should always be optimised to meet the demands of a given situation.

Support have no way of knowing beforehand how your VPS and its various applications are going to be used or behave, so there's much that they really can't preconfigure for you.

To be honest, you should probably already know the answer to that question. A VPS really is for people who want root but don't want to pay for a dedicated box. If you know you want root, you should know why. Myself, I wanted a VPS so I could learn stuff - I need to do as much administration as possible, or what's the point.

Now ... support may well disagree with everything I've just said.

if i want only root i will take something cheap like another jaguarpc offer at wowvps.com

and, i already got such vps other places which i use only to host one big site not suiteable at any shared hosting. and it have nothing but web+mysql. no ftp/mail/cpanel/webmin/etc. all managed by only ssh.

what i want here is a managed vps with everything managed and i can feel as if i'm on shared hosting but with much higher resources restriction than any shared hosting have.

actually, i'm not really need the root if the managed word is same as what i have in mind.

It really sounds to me like you need semi-dedicated. Others can help you here much better. I only have a VPS at jag, and have no idea of the actual pros and cons of semi-ded.

afaik, semi dedicated only give me one single reseller account.
and i need to be able to create multiple reseller account.
afaik2, this only possible with vps/dedicated.

Semi-dedicated will probably give you more resources than a VPS will, but as you already point out, it is a shared server with a single user account (no reseller privs). JPC also offers reseller accounts, but the resources available to individual accounts probably works out to be closer to a shared plan. The new Hybrid plans (on the Dedicated page) are probably more in line with what you want--you essentially get a VPS with a ton of dedicated resources and I believe it is fully managed.

hybrid is WAY.... over my budget.
    still...
all ip/dns is in one server and all ip is in one subnet.

i see it's not better than vps in this point.
