Raid rebuild - down 2.5 days so far.

    Hi,
The server load on Cydon went through the roof two days ago.
Support told me the RAID array is rebuilding.
Not sure why, possibly a drive failed.
Anyhow it has been rebuilding for 2.5 days and was still only at %73 at last report.
I could still get some response from the server early on but it has been totally inaccessible for about two days now. All sites are down, can't log in and can't retrieve mail.
    Is this normal?
I'm guessing that taking it offline for the whole rebuild would have been faster.
I've had a few problems with jag but I've basically been happy with the service.
Three(?) days downtime seems a long time for this type of problem.
I hope this is an isolated event and doesn't happen again.

    Hi eddiem,

No this is not normal downtime, you should not be down this long, the raid rebuild should only affect the performance and speeds i.e. until it completes but if your sites or service are down then please open a support ticket so techs can check into it.

    Thanx Rizwan,
I already have an open ticket and added your comment to it.
    It is ticket number 12973014

Yes initially things were slow but sometimes worked then after maybe 12 hours (not sure exactly) everything died including Putty access.

Support looked at it and said...
"Unfortunately, the slowness seems to be due to the high i/o.
There is nothing I can do. "

    Hi,

Unfortunately while the raid is rebuilding the throughput we will get through the raid will be limited because of the IO required for the rebuilt.

This will result in a higher iowait.

There is no problem with any of the other parameters on your VPS. We could attempt a move of your account but it it's likely to take longer to move your account than for the rebuild to complete.
I do work for JaguarPC. If you do need help please provide your ticket number (this isn't sensitive information).

If I'm not active on the forum please open a ticket instead of PMing me. If you think the issue requires access to your server please open a ticket.

    Thanx Nick.
At this point we can't be too far from the rebuild completing - I hope!

Maybe I was being too optimistic. The latest report is we're at 87%.
It has taken around 4.5 hours to do the last two percent.
At this rate we have more than a day to go.
