    Upgrade VPS Kernel?

    Hi,

I was wondering if I am able to upgrade my kernel on my VPS or will that screw things up? Currently I seem to be running kernel 2.6.9-023stab044.11-entnosplit, however the latest kernel is 2.6.9-89.0.9.EL. I see 2.6.9-89.0.9.EL as an option in yum list kernel, but I didn't want to screw anything up by downloading this.

If this is a ticket situation, let me know and I'll open one and move my question over to there...

    Hi wcselby,

VPS' are setup using specialized Virtuozzo kernel by Parallels and vendor does not recommend to upgrade kernel on VPS as this often breaks things and can result in VPS corruption.

If you have further questions please do not feel hesitate to open a ticket with technical support department and we will be more than happy to reply your questions. Thank you.

But this is a big problem, because all new versions of packages requires libc6, which not compatible with kernlel 2.6.9
So all installed software from Debian are old-versioned.

You can open a ticket with technical support department with details and we can look into it and if required we will check with the Parallels (vendor) support. Thank you.

As I found, solution can be following:
new "Virtuozzo 4" based on 2.6.18 kernel, which is compatible with current Debian packages.

Is it possible, that JaguarPC will upgrade to new Virtuozzo?

We are working on it but there is no ETA on when this will be performed because before the upgrade certain things need to be verified and checked to prevent any issue. If you wish we can move your VPS to Virtuozzo 4 node though. For this please open a support ticket with us.

If you're talking about the latest installed kernel...

I'm in the process of setting up a freshly provisioned JagPC VPS.

The kernel version (on my account) is 2.6.18-028stab064.8-PAE

This type of service is new to me, sooo... don't quote me.
