    Hosting plans, changes & Google

Hello! I have a consultation before hiring any plan with this company. I have a web project and wanted to know if I could start with the web-hosting plan basic and in the future (if things work well) to make the move to a managed VPS.
I heard that if you change this hurts host the results on Google . But: And if you change your plan within the same company that happens too?. He wanted to know if this affects the future results. Someone who can advise me?
    Thank you very much!

Downtime can hurt your rankings with Google, but if you are smart about how you move a site you can usually avoid all/most downtime.

Computers on the Internet connect to each other through IP addresses. Every computer connected to the the Internet has a unique IP address, similar to the way every phone has a unique phone number. When you type in www.mysite.com, your computer has to translate that name into an IP address in order to locate your site. It does this my querying a DNS server.

DNS (Domain name system) is a distributed system of servers. JPC runs DNS servers that have the name to IP mappings for all of the sites they host. At your personal computer you connect to your ISP or your employer's DNS servers. Since they probably don't know about your site already, they go through a process to figure out where to find that information and ultimately connect to JPC's servers to get the information about your site. Since this takes time and since you are likely to request your site again in the near future, your local DNS servers keep this information cached for a period of time, usually about half a day.

When you change servers you usually change the IP address that handles your site. JPC updates this in their DNS servers, but the servers that already have your info chached won't ask JPC for the new info until the cache expires. When this happens, anyone using one of those DNS servers will be directed to your old site. If that site is already gone then those users will get an error message. If Googlebot happens to be that "user" it may decide to pull your site out of the index because it is no longer available.

The simple solution: keep your old site up for a day or two after you move. You can also ask JPC to reduce the amount of time that other servers are told to cache your data a couple of days before you move the site to get the other servers refreshing your data more frequently. Luckily, JPC is sensitive to downtime concerns and they are willing to work with you to minimize downtime.

    Britosnet,

You're welcome. I'm glad you found the information useful.

I don't actually work for JPC, I am just a customer like you sound like you soon will be. I'm sure you'll be very happy with your decision to host here, though. Welcome to JPC!
