    Yum & PHP?

I'd would like to upgrade PHP on my VPS. Can this be done without breaking lots of stuff?

I assumed being CentOS it was probably installed by yum but when I do a
    Code:
    yum list installed
I do not see PHP listed as an installed package. I have a test machine in my basement with CentOS installed on it and when I do the same command it shows PHP packages when I do the "yum list installed". How is PHP installed on the VPS's? from source code? That is no problem as I've installed PHP on machines before by compiling it. Would just like to know for sure so I don't break anything too bad.

    Hi randyriegel,

Actually it depends on how PHP is setup on your server. For example if you have cPanel/WHM on it then cPanel installs PHP from source and to upgrade PHP it provides a comprehensive script.

I recommend you to open a ticket with technical support department and techs will assist you on this. Thank you.

I do have cPanel/WHM installed. I was looking through WHM under the software upgrade section but just saw PHP extentions. Nothing for PHP itself. Is it under /scripts directory like RoR upgrade is?

I can open a ticket to upgrade it but if it's as simple as running a script then I'd like to know which script to run.

Yes, it is under /scripts and the scrip is /scripts/easyapache. You can try that and in case you find it difficult to use, please feel free to contact technical support. Thank you.

Ok thanks! I saw EasyApache upgrade under WHM but assumed that was just for Apache and not PHP also. If I have any troubles I'll let you guys know.
