my sites are still down almost a hour now this is not good for biz
irdogg, most servers that were down are back up. Please open a support ticket regarding this and if you already have one opened, paste the ticket ID here so that we can check your issue in detail.
No updates to that thread in over three hours, and it's been over 5 hours since power was announced as being restored.
One of my two dedicated servers finally came back an hour ago - the other is still down. Assuming it was powered on soon after the power was announced as being restored, any fsck would have long since completed.
Yup...this sucks. Ticket #13076512, please investigate.
we are still working on getting everything back to 100%

Several years ago, before I came to Jag for hosting, I was on a major Canadian hosting company.
At some point, they had a power outage and when electricity came back online, it fried a lot of switches and servers. Their data center
was offline for a whole week.
Several big "players" sued them after an investigation which uncovered that all the "generators" and "UPS batteries" and other "gadgets" were just words and nothing more. The pictures of huge UPS closets and the diesel generators were all fake of course.
At some point last year, I received a nice a mount of money as compensation once the legal battle had ended.
Since then, I've seen a few other data centers up close and personal, and none of them had any generators or any other significant protection. They use the typical home UPS for a few important routers/switches and thats just about it.
Our data center obviously has no generators, so don't be fooled.
The data center has UPS systems and Generators, the issue appears to be that one of the UPS systems ran out of power before complete power could be restored. Of course this should not have happened, and we will be investigating why it did.
The UPS that failed supplies power to about 30% of the Data Center, and less than 10% of the Jag servers.

What's the address of the GNAX data center? Google earth might be able to see the generator boxes outside.![]()
![]()
Edit: I looked at it in Google Earth. I don't see any generators, but you really can't see 3 sides of the building. Also they could be in a covered area, and there are a couple of those, plus there seems to be a bus parked alongside the building that looked like the front, but the generators could be there... I *DO* see what looks like a supplemental water silo, ya gota figure if they've got a silo for backup cooling, they've got generators. I hope!![]()
The generators are inside and they pipe the exhaust out.

Power failed and shut them down. I think its obvious that there are no generators or anything remotely close to that.
Last time (see my post above), they said the same excuses, some UPS run out of power because some generator didn't have enough diesel...
whatever...
At least lets be honest, nobody is going to run away from GNAX, since there is nowhere to go. I don't know of any data center with such expensive generators and if one existed they'd have so expensive prices that they wouldn't last long in this competitive market.
at least lets not fool ourselfs with delusions of power generators.
PS:
I still have a few mails from 2007 when there was another power outage... oopps... I guess those multi million dollar power generators didn't work in that case either... suuuuuure....
I'll see if we can get a NOCC tech to take a photo of them if you like. We're as frustrated as you are, probably more, that they didn't kick in as designed in this instance.
Last report I have facility managers are looking at improving the UPS systems to allow a longer window to get the generators online.
