    Dedicated backup server

    Hi guys,

I learned the hard way that you shouldn't backup your data on the same machine and now i'm in need of some kind of backup.

Currently i have 5 different servers between dedicated and vps's that should be around 500GB of data. I'm thinking of gettng another dedicated server just to receive the backup's of all those 5 servers and maybe work as a webserver to cover the downtime if any of the live servers fail.

    So i'll probably get a Quad-core, Intel Q8400 + a 1TB disk. This should do it, right?

Also, i never used a dedicated software before, so the bundled:
"FREE R1soft software, enterprise backup solution"

Should cover all my needs right? Any of you know if its easy to use? Thanks

For Pure Backup you should look at JPC Backup Services
    http://www.jaguarpc.com/services/backups.php

If you want to do a Full Backup Server I dont believe the "Free R1`Soft" Line means a free backup SERVER software, they give you a free CLIENT to access their R1 Soft CDP Server(s). You would need to Lease the Server Software, probally from R1 or another Backup Vendor. I do not know if JPC offers a wholly owned/leased backup server.

Personally, unless your doing a full fail over for all 5 servers to 1 servers (probably not possible of advisable anyway), I would look at how much data your clients actual use, and buy a monthly backup account for that size and be done with it
