    Plesk questions. Web access.

Just a couple things I've been battling in Plesk. Any tips would be appreciated.

    1. Moved my Gallery installs to my VPS. I have ImageMagik and Netpbm installed and running from the shell, but the PHP app doesn't seem to be able to use them. Permissions are good. command line tests prove the convert functions are good. But the PHP or web setting are preventing execution.

    2. Just noticed after 2+ years of VPS that Plesk has an upgrade utility. I'm still back at 8.3. Think I need to use the utility one upgrade at a time? Or maybe jump to 9.0 and then increment? Any hazard in this process to be concerned about?

    3. Subdomains in Plesk are a pain. Other such apps let you just point a subdomain to directory. Don't suppose there's a setting to go simple. It's just not handy to have them so separate with crazy filepaths. Tried to hack the httpd.conf, but Plesk seems to "fix" it. It's just that I had subdomains that were looking at the same shared files in my last hosting setup.

Thanks, Pick your fav topic and toss in your two cents.

Didn't want to bother support until I've done my due diligence.
Found one answer. PHP defaults are locked down pretty well. vhosts.conf file overrides the defaults for the site. In my case I needed to add the ImageMagic path to the open_basedir so the executables could be found and run by the php script. If you have similar issues search the web for "vhosts.conf plesk" and you'll see solutions for any flavor of overriding the defaults.

That same vhost file should solve my subdomain quandry too. Haven't fully explored it yet. First attempt broke the main domain so I've put it on the backburner.

But I'll submit the question about upgrades to the support team. Thanks.

I am glad to hear that it sounds like you got most of it figured out. Sometimes it is fun to play with it and try to figure it out knowing you have the safety net of the support team in case things break or you just get stumped.

Please do not hesitate to let us know if we can assist you in any way.

If you are on a Linux VPS then before running the Plesk updater, I suggest having VPS OS upgraded first. You can submit a Support ticket and Support staff will upgrade the OS on your VPS (if possible) and then Plesk can be updated.
