    SolusVM API

Has anyone done anything on the control panel API? I was looking into making a small desktop client but I can't connect to the service at all. Ports seem to be 5353/5656, I've opened them on the firewall, still getting connection refused.

My ~guess here.. maybe I'm wrong, the API isn't available to VPS? Since you are apparently connecting to the machine running the SolusVM. In this case, the IP can't be your main IP, unless there is an extra service installed in each vps after the OS/CPanel to handle this. If the IP to connect to is the VM control panel, then I guess maybe Jaguar don't allow this, being the IP the same for all the VPSs in the server.

    Any hints would be appreciated.

The API is available. Please use normal https port (443). No need for 5353 or 5656 port. If you have access to your SolusVM panel for the vps, then that's all you need to enable API and setup the key to access it via API. If you are still having problem please open a support ticket with details on how you are trying to access it and we can look into it for you.

I get a 404 "SSL handshake failed". Do I need my own SSL cert in the VPS to use the api?

No, you should be using the server hostname which already has the SSL. Please check on the browser if it works there without SSL warning. If it works in browser and not via your code then you may need to look into your language documentation how you can get around that.

It doesnt work in the browser

    SSL connection error
Unable to make a secure connection to the server. This may be a problem with the server, or it may be requiring a client authentication certificate that you don't have.
Error 107 (net::ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR): SSL protocol error.

Please open a support ticket by logging into your client dashboard at https://secure.jaguarpc.com/clients and provide this login error and URL where you get it so someone can look into it.

Ticket 13282688 opened ~14-15 hours ago without reply. I posted then here in the forums since it's not an important issue or anything urgent, just to know if the problem was on my side or on the server, since the API documentation is quite scarce.

Someone is working on your ticket, however I also checked and do not see problem in browser. I have checked in Chrome, Firefox and Safari. Which browsers are you using? Where do you see that error message in the browser?

This is the URL and SSL connection to it is fine: removed now - other forum users can check as well. I'll remove this URL later.

May be your browser doesn't support wild card SSL.

Thanks, I got it working now. So the main host is the VPS machine, not my own VPS node, that's what I needed to know The confussion with that and the random info around about using other ports made it all a big mess to test.
The ticket reply is a bit confusing though, the staff is just telling me the ports I asked about are not setup properly (5353,5656), which would be because I already closed them after you told me I should use the standard SSL 443 port; maybe the staff in this particular case isn't aware of the API.

Anyway it's all working now from my end, I will post back soon with a small client app to share with the community

    Thanks!.

Excellent. Looking forward for the client app

BTW there is iSolusVM iPhone app with some basic functionality available free of cost in App Store. All those on SolusVM nodes can try it. You can reboot your VPS from the iPhone

Just checked their site, looks nice I dont have an iPhone though ^^

Btw, if you could please look into ticket 13282779, it seems to be stale and it's quite urgent to me, I'm holding on from importing the other half of my customers from the old provider until I can get this sorted.

Basically, I need to buy 4 more IPs for my VPS. I didn't pick them during the order process thinking it would be no issue to add them later, and as per instructed from a pre-sales chat, there didn't seem to be any issue in doing so. Now I'm being told I need to first buy a SSL cert in order to get more IPs?? :s That's quite weird and nothing I ever encountered before with other providers.

    pre-sales transcript

(07:34:14) David: Hello, each VPS comes with 3 IP's. One for the server and two for private nameservers.
(07:36:06) brian: can I order 2 additional IPs for a single month?
(07:36:19) brian: the order form has options for either 1 or 5 only
(07:36:41) brian: and somewhere in the site it says the extra IPs are only sold in packs of 5 and billed annually, which kinda differs from whats offered in the order form
(07:37:30) David: Yes, you can request as many as you like. They are $1 each per month. Please order the one on the order form and tehn ask for an additional one in the special instructions field.

We'll get you the IPs as promised in pre-sales chat. IPs do need justification. We have to justify them to ARIN. We'll figure it out how to do that with the 2 IPs you need. The provider that gave you IPs without justification is breaking ARIN rules.

I had 8 IPs with my previous provider, PowerVPS, it's in the specs of their highest fuse package ($150). I have currently 4 IPs assigned to 2 domain nameservers, which I'll be replacing by the ones given here. Those 2 domains are still in the older server, and I plan on bringing them over through the night after I have the IPs available to assign and do the change altogether with the new child ns etc.

So I need another 4 at the moment. 2 of those I will keep them permanently, the other 2 I would like them just for a month. I hope there won't be any problem with this
