    Question CDP backups?

Hi, been waiting 11h for reply on a ticket so might as well post here meanwhile, maybe other users know how this works.

I havent been able to use the CDP add-on ever since I signed up a week ago. This is my CDP screen, I dont see any files at all, only the folder trees:

    So, a couple questions:
    - There are always only 2 previous days of backups available?
    - How do I get to the files?

Also, I setup another VPS account for a friend I referred to a couple days ago. A ticket was created for the CDP credentials, but they never arrived. After inquiring about them, the support team said:

I'm very sorry for the inconvenience, but the software related to this addon has been altered recently. This means we can no longer offer the CDP addon to VPS clients. I have removed the addon from your billing and will now ask the credit and refund department to issue a $2.50 credit to your account.
Well, wow, that's quite a change then. How are gonna retrieve backups from now on?
Is that also why the CDP in my account never worked?

    Edit:

Also, I get this on the main screen by clicking on the node, what's that passphrase box for? All support ever replied me about it is that they didn't get that box and I didn't have to do anything with that. What's the box for?

R1Soft just made some changes to the backup software, and the CDP addon for vps servers no longer works, there is nothing we can do about it. Please open a ticket to support and they will remove it, and then have them pass it over to Customer Service and we will credit the amount back to your account.

The techs can still do any backup restores for you.

To shed some light on this the CDP addon for VPS users was not a feature designed by r1soft but rather a trick we figured out to be able to add the usefull tool. The recent change to the software by the developer broke this ability. We can't revert to the older software due to security issues and since it was never a promised feature by the developer we can't force them to give us the ability either.

Will the backups requests be free of charge or a fee will apply?
Do you have another solution in mind for the future for another backup tool users can use on their own?
How many days prior can we request a restore for?

Does the CDP service for dedicated servers remain the same? Or should I worry about something.

    Hi Julian Muņoz,

The dedicated server backups are not affected by the changes r1soft developers have made. Thank you.

Was R1Soft unhappy with the "trick"? Were they even aware of what you were doing? Don't software vendors usually have different pricing for number of users or seats or VPS vs dedicated environments?

Was it just a happy loophole that wasn't covered at all in your agreement? I thought you guys were on great terms with R1?

I guess I'm just really confused lately.
    Good luck

I believe they did know about it and had even given us a suggestion regarding it at one point when we were first getting it working. Yes it just wasn't a promised feature so we don't have ground to demand it be made available again with them. It's a change to their software regarding block devices and how the CDP users load the file structure or something like that so it's not really a matter of our relationship with them.

That's too bad. Would seem like a great place for them to go with the VPS market; you'd think they'd wanna work with you to make it an addon feature for VPS companies... just curious you keep saying it as "force them" and "demand"; doesn't sound very cozy.

Sooo, I guess with the cloud setup, is R1 out of the picture for an end-user available backup solution?

All of this cloud stuff is a huge complication for me as well, as I've been planning on migrating to a hybrid VPS plan. Now there is no backup interface, which I was hoping was going to be a part of my move rather than my manual WinSCP syncing to my PC.

I guess I'll know more about how my plans can fit into your cloud plans in 6-10 weeks. Until then I guess I'm still holding off, where I've been since about February of 2010 (for a variety of reasons).
    Good luck

Any updates on an alternate solution, or any chances of getting CDP re-enabled? Hope this can be done, CDP was awesome.

We are still trying to find out from vendor if they can re-enable CDP.

But for now you can order FTP backup space which can be configured in WHM of your VPS/Dedicated Server to save daily backups. The advantage of using FTP backup space is that you can restore an entire cPanel account (which includes all data including MySQL db dumps). The disadvantage is that if you have large data (in GBs) in a single cPanel account then creating daily archive and uploading it to remote ftp backup space can add considerable load to the server. In that case you can configure WHM to skip backup of that account and instead setup some manual scripts to do incremental rsync backups.

    Hi,
Any news about this? CDP was a really nice addon for VPSs.
