Going Back to PHP5.2.17 from 5.3.8

Can this be done? If php5.3.8 has been compiled on the VPS can one revert back to PHP5.2.17.

Reason I ask is, I have 3 clients using Interspire Shopping Cart - their entire systems were working 100% on 5.2.17, but I also know it will work on 5.3.+, however, there carts are still working BUT these carts all have a feature which allows one to search from the admin side of the software, YouTube videos. Now this is no longer working for them since I had PHP5.3.8 and I've been asked to try sort it out, and I've tried and am not coming right, so I've been thinking of going back to php5.2.17, just need to know if it can be done.

Do you know what errors are being generated in the logs when they try to use those features? It may be a relatively easy fix.

Also, have you tried contacting Interspire Shopping Cart to see if they know what could be causing the problems with 5.3.8?

I have asked the client to do that. I have limited access to their forums. Client says the support is not being too helpful :s

I've checked the logs: they make reference to 2 files - I've checked the files too and I cant see anything wrong there either

I've also checked all the associated files and everything on the server that needs to be enabled for it to work, is enabled.

To answer the question yes you can downgrade php from 5.3.8 to 5.2.17. As long as no script requires 5.3.x you'll be fine. This is the reason we are not upgrading php on our servers to 5.3.x yet. We have received lots of reports of sites breaking up with the change from 5.2.x to 5.3.x.

I tried the 5.3.x version of PHP and ran into issues to. You can recompile with 5.2.17 very easily. That is what I had to do as well.

I asked for PHP upgrade to 5.3, but after reading the support's reply to my ticket I turned down the idea. I'm glad I did. Fortunately my new software required just one function (array_replace) not available in previous PHP versions. I google it and found the function, so I included it in the new script and worked just fine.
