Dedicated Server/Colocations

Can anyone please explain to me in details what a colocation is?

Colocation is a situation where you have a server that you've purchased and need to put it in a data center with a high speed connection, security, and constant availability. When you simply want to lease a server that you would not own but have full access to as the systems administrator, it is called dedicated hosting.
