    Question Dedicated Server VS Reselling Accts

    I’m quite confused about Dedicated Servers. I keep reading that if you have more than X customers, that you should get a dedicated server. I do the math and it doesn’t make much sense. Using the example that I only sell (1) plan:

    Reselling Virtual Plan “Budget”
    100MB disk space
    6gig bandwidth
    Reseller price = $4.95
    Retail price = $9.95

    Profit = $5.00

    I sell 250 of these accounts = $1,250 Monthly profit.

    Dedicated Server:
    100MB disk space
    6gig bandwidth
    Retail price = $9.95

    Assuming that clients will only use 25% of allotted bandwidth:

    1.5gig bandwidth X 250 = 375gig bandwidth needed.

    Using “JPC2009” dedicated server,
    40GB hard drive
    25gig bandwidth

    To put (250) accounts on server, I will need to purchase another additional (350)gig of bandwidth at $3.00 per gig = 350 X 3.00 = $1,050.00

    So, my cost would be:
    Server = $ 205.00
    Additional bandwidth = $1,050.00

    Total Monthly Cost = $ 1,255.00

    Monthly Revenue of $ 2,487.50 – Monthly Cost of $ 1,255.00 = Net of $ 1,232.50

    Plus I will have additional expenses with dedicated server that will Lower the net amount. WHAT am I missing?????

    It doesn't quite work that way. No two websites are the same, use the same resources and need the same package offerings.

    100MB for many sites are too much, and for many sites way to little.

    Differently put, oversell to some degree, with control, this will help you grow better, and get the right server for your budget. On our one VPS we have 78 accounts, some using 12MB space, some up to 500MB space, yet the total space is only 16GB. The total monthly bandwidth is less than 250GB, but the RAM usages burst to 2GB daily, so in this case a dedi is needed, and we'll have plenty HDD & bandwidth to spare

    P.S. where do you see a dedi with 6GB bandwidth? The normally come with 500GB +

    Don't do it!

    I found an answer in here, the other night, from 2002...

    Many of these older threads are still relevant!

    Archive DOES NOT mean delete

    You set up a READ ONLY forum and move threads that are older than XX Date to it....

    And Alternative, and I am sure there is a VB Mod out there, if not it would be simple to create, you can Search the database for threads older than XX date and close them to disallow new postings

    Using today's lowest-end server...

    * AMD 3500+ 64 Bit CPU
    * 1200 GB Premium Bandwidth
    * 1 GB Ram Memory
    * 160 GB Sata Drive
    Monthly Revenue of $ 2,487.50 – Monthly Cost of $ 117.00 = Net of $ 2370.50

    The best way to get customers is to 'buy' them...
