We are hoping to have it in production by the end of the year however time is drawing nigh so Q1 2009 may be more realistic. Once it is ready we will announce it in a newsletter.

Any Chance that people will realize that winblows blows as a server OS?
Maybe if it actually blew.
I just deployed a Small Business Server 2003 box to a doctors office along with a laptop and all new workstations. They are absolutely thrilled with the setup and the office manager loves the fact that she can remote in. I don't see how Windows blows as a server OS.

Why? What?
I was a CGI/Perl diver before I came here... just busting into Python.
PHP is much better... less rigid and structured!
I still like Windows servers though. They got their place...
Windows 2008 and Vista share the same code, don't they?!?!?

Whew! That Windows Server 2008 software sure is pricey!
I was just reading an article about ppl using it in 'Desktop mode'.
Supposedly, it runs circles around Vista - even Vista Business.
But, WoW, the licensing fees are outrageous...

If you tried that in a Linux shop you'd probably quit before the laughter died down and someone got off the floor long enough to fire you.
In all seriousness Windows can be an ok platform for use as a server if properly implemented. It takes a great deal of skill to properly manage any server but with Windows the barrier to entry is lower (easy point and click interface) so people can get the job done without fully understanding it which is dangerous.
Similarly, poorly configured Linux box can be as dangerous as Windows box.
I've spent a good deal of time supporting shared hosting and dedicated hosting on Windows and Linux and I've found that Windows tends to have more interesting quirks.
Linux has great community support and if you don't mess with the configuration it will work well and work for years with few changes.
Generally I prefer Linux because I like to be able to tinker (2/3 of my home boxes are Linux) and, well, you can't beat free.
Usually if you don't need any Microsoft only applications (.NET, COM+, etc) I'll recommend Linux. Trust me, the free vs license does make a significant difference in cost even if you are on shared hosting.
