Went from a windows reseller account to a windows VPS and the first thing I get a client bitching because he can't do IMAP from his desktop client!
Guess how much the version of Mail Enable costs with IMAP included? Would you believe >$300!
Has anyone else here went through tis? I can get "SmarterMail Free edition" which does allow for IMAP but is limited to 10 accounts per domain. YUP! That sure would bring on even more bitching!
I THINK I may have found the solution. There is a open source windows mail server with all the bells and whistles for FREE! It is called hMailServer and can be found at this url: http://www.hmailserver.com/index.php?page=welcome. Thing is that you attach ClamAV and SpamAssassin to it along with squirrel mail. From watching the top -c logs running on my linux server I know those are resource intensive so I'm not too sure about installing it on a windows VPS.
The Windows VPS is running 1.4 GB memory and is suppose to be burst-able to 2 GB RAM with 384 MB guaranteed, but Plesk and windows are resource HOGS to start with.
What can anyone tell me about your thoughts on trying this? I'd appreciate educated opinions about the feasibility of this plan.
I'm no good at windows at all! The only reason I even got into windows hosting was that a few of my good linux clients wanted to offer windows too. I've yet to clear a profit from it. I have < 20 domains on the VPS so resources are not hurting yet but I'll need to at least double that number of domains before I'm making much money from it. That's domains, not clients. If I had 20 clients even at my smallest package I'd be happy with it.
Anyway, Your thought would be appreciated.
