missing emails because of virtual inbox

I normally use thunderbird to read my email. For the most part that works, but some of my test emails never made it to the t-bird inbox. So today I logged in to webmail using Horde. I discovered the virtual inbox where are my test emails and several emails from other people that I hadn't seen. I'd like the emails not to ever go to the virtual inbox. I can see how to set options so I don't see it anymore, but if I did that I'd like to know for sure that no emails go there.
