Three major types of web hosting arrangements include dedicated hosting, virtual private server (VPS) hosting and shared hosting. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages,Shared, VPS and Dedicated differnt hosting plan types depending upon a number of factors, including price, features and available resources each platform provides. Let’s look at these three hosting services more closely.

Shared Hosting
Shared hosting allows a number of users to utilize the same server to host their websites. All the managerial and maintenance tasks required, such as security installations, technical support and more are handled by the server’s administrators who work for the hosting company. Shared hosting is generally the least expensive of all hosting options since the cost of using the resources of the server are shared by many users. A Control Panel is most often available to users to easily manage certain aspects of their websites, such as emails and domains.

VPS (Virtual Private Server)
VPS hosting is a significant step up from a standard shared hosting arrangement. A virtual private server offers customers the benefit of having their own virtual server allocated on a main physical server.  A Virtual Private Server hosting plan provides the user with more power and flexibility than a shared server, since the user can install any chosen software and configure the virtual server environment as desired.

Dedicated Server
Dedicated hosting provides the most control and flexibility of all the hosting platforms in our discussion. With a dedicated server hosting plan you maintain sole use of the resources the server including all configurations and installation relating to software, the operating system, hardware, etc. As a result, it is the most expensive of the options, but does offer the highest level of scalability, security and performance.

Choosing the Right Hosting Service
Selecting the right hosting service will depend on the requirements and expectations you have for your website. For those who just need fairly limited resources or are just starting out with a web presence, shared hosting is generally the optimal choice. For users with significant resource requirements in terms of traffic volume (which can include many businesses), VPS hosting is often the recommended choice. Large companies with extensive bandwidth and data management requirements may defer to the more powerful and expensive dedicated hosting option which gives them the greatest control of all.
